Marostica

An agricultural center renowned for its cherries, Marostica maintains its fourteenth-century urban structure of Scaliger origin, which consists of a walled circle at the top of which there are two fortresses: the Lower and Upper Castle. A peculiarity of the town is the extravagant chess square whose pavement contains a chessboard on which in even years, the second week of September, the extraordinary game of chess is played, with living pawns.
